Goal

Real AutoFirma draws a visible signature block on the signed PDF. Implement optional visible signature in the PAdES path.

Scope (OWNERSHIP: this issue owns visible-signature module + SignPanel option ONLY)

  • New module src/lib/pades-visible.ts (or similar): pdf-lib draws a block (signature image + text: CN, date, reason) at chosen position (page number, corner/coords).
  • SignPanel: optional visible-signature toggle with image upload + position picker (page, corner). Off by default.
  • Signing pipeline: draw happens BEFORE signature computation (bytes must be final pre-sign).
  • Tests: synthetic cert, assert drawn content present + signature still verifies.

Gates

pnpm test green, build clean, existing smoke paths unaffected (toggle off default).

Secrets

No real certs needed — fixtures generated at test time.

Issue #45 — PAdES visible signature: draw signature block on PDF

Restated goal. src/lib/pades.ts already appends an incremental update that can carry a text-only
appearance (visible: { page?, rect }), but there is no way to place a block by page/corner, no image
support, and the app's sign panel has no visible-signature option at all (PAdES is not even wired into
the batch signer: makeSigner() returns null for it). Done = a new src/lib/pades-visible.ts owns the
drawing (corner → annotation rectangle, appearance stream with an optional PNG/JPEG image plus CN/date
text lines), signPdf consumes it inside the incremental update so the drawn bytes are covered by
/ByteRange (i.e. final before the CMS digest is computed), the sign panel exposes an off-by-default
toggle with image upload + page/corner pickers, and tests prove the block is present in the output while
openssl cms -verify still passes.

Scope — files I will change

  • src/lib/pades-visible.ts (new): VisibleSignatureOptions, SIGNATURE_CORNERS, rectForCorner(),
buildAppearance() (image XObject via pdf-lib embedPng/embedJpg, text lines, box/border),
    serializeObject().
  • src/lib/pades.ts: visible becomes VisibleSignatureOptions (adds corner, size, image,
lines; rect keeps its current meaning), resources dict gains /XObject, image objects are
appended to the incremental update and their refs enter the xref.
  • src/lib/pades-visible.test.ts (new) + src/lib/pades.test.ts (extend): corner math, drawn
content, image object present, openssl cms -verify still green.
  • src/lib/i18n.ts (ES/EN copy), src/lib/App.svelte (panel control + PAdES branch in makeSigner),
src/lib/sign.ts (PAdES implemented: true), README.md/PRODUCT.md (status lines).
  • Possibly one src/lib/App.test.ts case if the UI wiring can be driven without heroics.

Files I will NOT touch: src/lib/verify/**, src/lib/cms.ts, src/lib/xades.ts, src/lib/ooxml.ts,
src/lib/der.ts, src/lib/batch.ts, test/fixtures/pades-b-b-signed.pdf (invisible golden output must
stay byte-identical), docs/architecture.md, mcp/, Containerfile, Caddyfile, package.json.

Ordered tasks (each with its verification command)

  1. pades-visible.ts: corner → rect, block lines, appearance content, image embedding via pdf-lib.
    Verify: pnpm vitest run src/lib/pades-visible.test.ts.
  2. pades.ts: new visible type + image objects in the incremental update, xref//Size still right.
Verify: pnpm vitest run src/lib/pades.test.ts (golden byte-for-byte test must stay green).
  3. Tests: visible block with image + lines present in the stream, /Rect from corner inside the page,
openssl verification still successful; unsupported image bytes rejected.
Verify: same file, plus a manual pdfsig/qpdf run on a throwaway signed PDF.
  4. UI: i18n copy, panel block (switch + image upload + page number + corner select, off by default),
PAdES branch in makeSigner (uses certificate.der, certificate.key, chain), sign.ts flag.
Verify: pnpm test, pnpm run check, pnpm build.
  5. Docs status lines + report.
Verify: git diff --check, pnpm test, pnpm build.

Open questions / assumptions (no human to ask — proceeding)

  • Is wiring PAdES into the sign panel in scope? Assumed yes: an option that feeds nothing is dead
code, and the issue asks for the toggle and for the drawing to happen in the signing pipeline. The
PAdES engine (lib, verified by openssl/pdfsig/qpdf) already exists; the panel just never called it.
This flips SIGN_FORMATS.pades.implemented to true (it is the only change to how the picker looks).
  • Block text. The issue lists CN, date, reason. The panel collects no reason/location today, so the
UI draws CN + date; signPdf accepts visible.lines and options.reason, so a reason field later
needs no lib change. Adding a reason input is left to a human/UI issue.
  • Image formats. PNG and JPEG, sniffed by magic bytes, validated at the upload boundary (unsupported
bytes throw a labelled error). Alpha is handled by pdf-lib (/SMask), and the SMask object is written
    into the incremental update too.
  • Placement. Corner = 24 pt margin from the page's MediaBox edges, default block 200×70 pt, override
with visible.rect. No drag-to-place UI (issue asks for page + corner picker).
  • Existing visible.rect behaviour is preserved, so the committed golden fixtures and the current
    visible-signature test stay valid.

Risk / boring fallback

  • Risk: pdf-lib's embedded image stream is written by hand into the incremental update (offsets, /Size).
Fallback: if the stream cannot be reproduced faithfully, embed the image as a second incremental
reference-free object is impossible — instead fall back to text-only blocks (image dropped, warned in
the UI copy) and report it.
  • Risk: enabling PAdES in the picker changes the App UI tests. Fallback: keep it enabled (the wiring is
the point) and fix the tests; never weaken an assertion.
  • Gate risk: golden fixture byte-equality. Only the invisible path is untouched, so the fallback is to
leave the image/text work behind an explicit visible and re-run pnpm test.
# Issue #45 — PAdES visible signature: draw signature block on PDF **Restated goal.** `src/lib/pades.ts` already appends an incremental update that can carry a *text-only* appearance (`visible: { page?, rect }`), but there is no way to place a block by page/corner, no image support, and the app's sign panel has no visible-signature option at all (PAdES is not even wired into the batch signer: `makeSigner()` returns `null` for it). DONE — visible signature block drawn inside the PAdES incremental update.

Commits (branch issue/45-pades-visible-signature-draw-s):

  • 0cf3434f feat(pades): visible signature block with corner placement and image
  • ac39d6be feat(ui): visible-signature option for PAdES, and PAdES in the signer
  • 7d2680d6 test: read the xmlsec1 1.3.12 Verification status: verdict (pre-existing, one hunk)
  • 6455dcf2 docs: PAdES is wired in the panel, visible block documented
  • 5e77e4bf fix(pades): wrap the block text instead of cutting the date line

Gates (final idle run on 5e77e4bf):

  • pnpm test — 144 passed / 17 files, exit 0
  • pnpm run check (svelte-check) — 0 errors, 0 warnings
  • pnpm build — exit 0
  • git diff --check — clean

New src/lib/pades-visible.ts (corner→rect, appearance with PNG/JPEG image + wrapped CN/date lines, image /SMask included); signPdf embeds the image objects in the same incremental update, so every drawn byte is inside /ByteRange. Panel: off-by-default "Bloque de firma visible" (image, page, corner) — and PAdES is now wired into the signer, else the toggle would be dead code; that flips SIGN_FORMATS.pades.implemented to true (see report, decision 1).

Evidence: browser smoke on the built app — sign a PDF with the block, download it, pdfsig = "Total document signed / Signature is Valid.", qpdf --check clean, content stream carries /Im0 Do and the wrapped date line. Full report: .bullet/meta/issue-45.report.md.
